The whereabouts of two sailors are currently unknown as a barge went up in flames while sailing through Patani waters in Delta.

Sources told The New Diplomat that the incident happened last night, revealing that barges plying the route “usually sail from their yard/terminal in Kwale carrying products to already waiting vessels to discharge.”

The barge codenamed ‘Yade’ was said to belong to Sterling Global Oil Resources Ltd.

The cause of the fire onboard cannot be ascertained as of the time of this reporting.

The crew members were said to have jump overboard while trying to escape the fire. However, maritime sources said they were yet to be found.

Colleagues were said to have raised an SOS message to authorities to rescue the victims of the tragic ocean incident.
