Barely forty eight hours to the Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections slated for 18th March, 2023, the Inspection General of Police, IGP Alkali Usman Baba has ordered the restriction of all forms of vehicular movement on roads, waterways and other forms of transport.

A release issued Thursday by the Force Public Relations Officer (PRO), CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, stated that movements would be restricted from 12am to 6pm on election day in the states where the democratic exercise would be conducted.

The IGP stated that only those who are on essential duties as the officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC), Electoral Observers, Accredited Media and Observers, Ambulances responding to medical emergencies, firefighters would be exempted.

The release also stated that the directive excludes residents of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja as election would not be conducted in the city.

The IGP reiterates the ban on all security aides to VIPs and Escorts from accompanying their principals and politicians to polling booths and collation centres during the election.

Alkali Usman Baba also placed a ban on State established and owned security outfits/organisations, quasi security units, and private owned guards from participating in election security management.

The IGP therefore urged all citizens to be law abiding during and after the elections even as he assures that all necessary security measures have been emplaced to ensure they exercise their franchise unhindered.

He, however, enjoined the general public to contact the Nigerian Police Force Headquarters via 08033440189, (DIG Operations), 08033027731, (AIG FEDOPS) and (CP Elections), 0803404039, the “NPF Rescue Me App” on Android and iOS, and via the NPF Rescue Me Emergency Toll free line on 08031230631, to request emergency security response.

The IGP also disclosed that other election situation room numbers which have been shared on the Nigeria Police social media platforms will be repeated by concerned State Police Commands for necessary emergency contact.
