Most eligible voters in Lagos State may refuse to exercise their franchise over fear of imminent outbreak of violence in the different polling units, The Diplomat investigations have revealed.

Some of the residents who spoke to The Diplomat, hinged their fear on the recent attack on supporters of the Labour Party, LP by yet to be identified Cutlass wielding thugs.

It would be recalled that a handful of the LP supporters were attacked and wounded by some unidentified Cutlass and Gun Wielding thugs on their way to the party’s Mega Rally at the Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) in Lagos.

The LP supporters who were ambushed, suffered deep machete cut and bullet wounds. It was reported few days ago that one the victims’ hand has been amputated.

Here’s an excerpt of residents’ response

Ekene Chikamnayo, Ikorodu

I would have loved to cast my vote but I’m afraid of these area boys everywhere. They are sponsored by the politicians. You arrest them, the next minute, they are released back to the streets again. Till now, those who attacked Peter Obi’s supporters are currently walking the streets of Lagos as free men. What an irony?

Ochuko Akpodonor; Olodi, Apapa

I will vote if there’s no violence at my polling unit. This is a volatile area though but it is a civic responsibility for all Nigerians to cast their votes and to decide who rules over them.

Magnus Nwosu, Idumota

It’s only God that would predict what will happen tomorrow. Already people have started threatening voters in Lagos on the dangers of voting against their candidate. It depends on what I see that day. I cannot kill myself.

Bello Isa: Mile 12 Trader.

I will vote. I already have my PVC. We told Army officers would be deployed to protect Voters. But if they are not at the polling units, it means I won’t vote because those Alaiye, otherwise known as area boys will be there to threaten Voters.

Kayode Tosin: Surulere

I dare not go close to the polling unit if I can not find police officers keeping guard. It is a risky adventure my brother.

Balogun Seun: Badagry

I will vote if the environment is safe. I want to be alife to see the next Nigeria’s President. After all, I only have one vote.

Benjamin, Awolowo Rd. Ikoyi

I will vote because there’s a semblance of orderliness in this area. However, I hope this year’s election won’t be different.
