The Commonwealth Secretary General, Patricia Scotland has joined members of the international community to sue for peaceful elections ahead of the presidential election slated for this Saturday, February 25.
Scotland who emphasized on the need for Nigeria to conduct free, fair, peaceful and credible elections, said countries in the African continent are currently looking up to Nigeria.
The Commonwealth Secretary General stated that Nigeria, as the largest democracy, would serve as an example to other countries in the African continent.
She enjoined Nigerians and the government to ensure that the Saturday presidential election remains free fair, credible and peaceful.
Scotland advised the different political parties and their candidates not to over heat the polity.
She also implored the stakeholders and supporters of the parties to endeavour to guard against utterances that would engendered violence during and after the general elections.
Scotland further disclosed, that at the moment, the world is currently focusing it’s attention on Nigeria, as every member nation of the international community is interested in Nigeria’s developing democracy.
She advised that Nigerians and the political class must embrace whosoever emerges in the transparent elections.
