- Alleges Some Politicians Want To Scuttle The Ongoing Electoral Process
Botched attempts by the federal government to nip the over three months old perennial fuel scarcity in the bud has continued to provoke reactions in certain quarters as the former Chairman, Petroleum Resources (upstream) Committee, Honourable Musa Sarkin Adar representing Gada/Goronyo federal constituency of Sokoto State has accused some unidentified politicians in Nigeria, who, he describes as saboteurs that are hell bent in scuttling the forthcoming general elections as being responsible for the persisting fuel crisis nation wide.
The Lawmaker who disclosed that some members of a cabal who are mainly politicians, resolved to make life unbearable for Nigerians and the forthcoming general elections near impossible.
Adar recalled that President Muhammadu Buhari upon assumption of office aggressively addressed the remote and immediate causes of fuel scarcity, adding that for reasonable period of time, Nigerians were absolved from the shock of fuel crisis.
He insisted that resurgence of fuel scarcity was a calculated attempts by some disgruntled politicians to derail the ongoing electoral process.
The Lawmaker, however, observed that the huge price margin of petrol pump price between Nigeria and neighbouring countries within the West Africa sub region has triggered reported cases of diversion and smuggling of the product by marketers and their sponsors.
In this regard, Adar urged the consumer protection agency and other regulatory agencies as the Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON), Directorate of Petroleum Resources (DPR), the Petroleum Pricing and Regulatory Commission (PPRC) among others to be alert in their statutory responsibilities in order to track down those faceless saboteurs who engaged in the illicit business smuggling of petrol.
The former Chairman, Petroleum Resources upstream Committee insisted that the Managing Director of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPC LTD), Mele Kolo Kyari must be questioned on the persisting fuel scarcity.
“It’s proper to ask the Managing Director of the NNPC Limited the quantity of litres of petrol the corporation has released to the the Nigerian public if the figure is in tandem with what the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) claimed to be distributing.
He also stated that the Nigerian Custom Boss must be queried how humongous litres of fuel are fritted away through the nation’s borders without his knowledge.
