The presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi will not withdraw from the February 25th presidential race to support any presidential candidates.

The Obi-Datti Campaign Organisation on Wednesday declared that their candidate is not in talks with any party over any alliance, including with the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar.

The campaign organization reiterated that Obi will contest in the forthcoming presidential election and will not entertain any alliance talks.

The statement comes in reaction to an earlier statement made by Atiku.

The Presidential Candidate of the PDP while speaking with the BBC Hausa service on Tuesday claimed Obi or the presidential candidate of the New Nigerian Peoples Party(NNPP), Rabiu Kwankwaso might withdraw from the race and support him.

Atiku, during the interview said he remains optimistic that he would work with Obi or Kwankwaso to emerge as the winner of the forthcoming poll.

“Although I see no threat in any of them, we are in talks, and the discussion might yield a positive result that will see one of them coming.”

But reacting to the claim on Wednesday in an chat, the Obi-Datti campaign organisation spokesperson, Yunusa Tanko, said those making the alliance claim are just trying to exploit Obi’s popularity.

According to Tanko, Obi is only focused on campaigning to the people of Nigeria about his vision for the country.

“As of yesterday, before we left Numan, there was nothing of such nature. We are busy with campaigns. We are not aware of anything like an alliance.

“I think somebody is just trying to cash out on the Obi-Datti ticket. We are right now campaigning in Sokoto and we will be in Zamfara,” Tanko said.
