A minor fire incident occurred yesterday at the second floor of the Defence Headquarters, Garki, Abuja.

The inferno which reportedly started around 2pm on Monday (12 December, 2022) was immediately put to check before it escalates.
The Director, Defence Information, Major General Jimmy Akpor who confirmed the incident, said the fire had been brought under control, and all staff had been evacuated.
The defence spokesman stated that the immediate and remote cause of the inferno was yet to be ascertained as at press time.

Akpor disclosed that investigations are already ongoing to determine the cause of the fire outbreak.
He also disclosed that the ugly incident was brought under control by the combined efforts of the military and Federal Fire Service personnel and resources, adding that all personnel and civilian staff were evacuated without injury or loss of life.

The defence spokesman in appreciation of the Federal Fire Service and the entire public for their continued support and goodwill to the Armed Forces of Nigeria, said normalcy has since returned to the defence headquarters.
