Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State on Wednesday continued his meeting with members of the opposition parties, an indication which shows the crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) might not abate any time soon.

This time, Wike hosted two unlikely visitors, Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State and his Cross River counterpart, Ben Ayade in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

The New Diplomat gathered that the closed-door meeting was held at Wike’s Rumueprikon Country Home, Obio-Akpor Local Government Area, Port Harcourt, in the late hours of Wednesday.

Also, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State, who is fighting structural injustice in PDP with Wike was present at the meeting.

While the motive of the meeting remains top secret as of press time, it might be coming as a move to lure Wike to support the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming presidential election.

This meeting is coming at the time Governor Wike and his allies vowed not to work for the presidential candidate of the PDP, Atiku Abubakar, due to northern dominance in key positions in the party.

It would be recalled that both Umahi and Ayade were originally elected governors under the platform of PDP before switching allegiances by defecting to APC.

In recent times, Wike had met with several governors elected on the platform of the APC, including Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, who he had endorsed for a second term against his party’s candidate.

The New Diplomat also reports that this is the first time Umahi and Wike are meeting since the duo fell apart and exchanged words following issues in the PDP.
