Rishi Sunak after shattering many records to emerge leader of the Conservative Party, has officially taken over as Britain’s Prime Minister, becoming the country’s third leader in seven weeks.

In his first address, Sunak quickly promised to reverse ill-fated economic policy implemented by his predecessor Liz Truss, which eventually led to her fall from grace to grass.

Following tradition, Sunak had earlier met with King Charles III to get the monarch’s role and his blessing to form a new government.

This comes after outgoing leader Liz Truss met the monarch same day to offer her resignation.

The New Diplomat had earlier reported that Truss, a super-rich tory member and former banker is the first person of colour to lead the UK and the youngest British Prime Minister in over two centuries.

He takes over after Truss, his former rival had barely spent 50 days in office following her controversial economic policy which rocked Britain’s economy.

Sunak will lead a divided party and will immediately face demands to call a general election and seek his own mandate.

In his first address outside 10 Downing Street, Tuesday, Sunak promised to reverse “mistakes” made by Liz Truss.

“It is only right to explain why i’m standing her as your new Prime Minister.

“Right now, our country is facing a profound economic crisis. The aftermath of Covid still lingers.

“Putin’s war in Ukraine has destabilized energy markets and supply chains the world over.”

“I want to pay tribute to my predecessor Liz Truss,” Sunak said.

“She was not wrong to want to improve growth in this country. It is a noble aim and I admired her restlessness to create change. But some mistakes were made.”

“Not borne of ill will or bad intentions, quite the opposite in fact. But mistakes nonetheless,” Sunak added.
