Shortly after his repatriation to Nigeria, operatives of the Department of State Security (DSS) have arrested a self-acclaimed chief negotiator of the bandits, Tukur Mamu.
It was learnt that Mamu was arrested at about 1:58pm on Wednesday at Aminu Kano International Airport.
The New Diplomat had reported that Mamu was arrested by the Interpol in Egypt on his way to lesser Hajj in Saudi Arabia and made to return home.
Upon his arrival at the Aminu Kano International Airport, Mamu, was arrested by the DSS for questioning.
This was confirmed in a statement issued by the Spokesman for the DSS, Dr. Peter Afunanya.
Afunanya, in the statement revealed that Mamu was arrested to answer critical questions on ongoing investigations relating to some security matters in parts of the country.
It would be recalled that Mamu who is the Publisher of Desert Herald Newspaper in Kaduna, came into limelight with his role as the lead negotiator in securing the release of the hostages of the Abuja-Kaduna train attack.
The statement reads, “The Department of State Services has been inundated with enquires in respect of the arrest or otherwise of Tukur Mamu, the self-acclaimed Kaduna Train hostage negotiator. This is to confirm that Manu, as a person of interest, was intercepted by Nigeria’s foreign partners in Cairo, Egypt on 6th September 2022 while on his way to Saudi Arabia.
“He has since been returned to the country, today, 7th September 2022 and taken into the Service’s custody. The act followed a request by Nigeria’s Military, Law Enforcement and Intelligence Community to their foreign partners to bring back Mamu to the country to answer critical questions on ongoing investigations relating to some security matters in parts of the country.
“The public may wish to note that the law will appropriately take its course,” Dr. Afunanya said.
