Following the refusal of the Delta State government to grant space as temporary site for the take-off of the Federal Polytechnic sited in Orogun, Ughelli North Local Government Area, arrangement is now in place for the school to commence academic work in nearby existing buildings.

This much was made known by the Senator representing Delta Central Senatorial District.and Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege while inspecting the extent of work ongoing in the permanent site of the Polytechnic recently.

Omo-Agege who urged the contractors handling the projects to hasten up the delivery of the job, however disclosed that the school has to commence academic work from existing buildings in the area pending the completion of structures in the permanent site.

“Since the state government is not willing to give us a temporary site, we are trying to see some of the projects that I brought here, to see if we can also make them available to the polytechnic pending the completion of the permanent site.

“So, we are looking for some of the buildings we have within the community that could serve as a temporary site.

“We have Orhoera Secondary Secondary, Ugono-Orogun; JAMB Centre, town hall. Be that as it may, all things are going well”, he said.

Commenting on the importance of the Polytechnic, Senator Omo-Agege who is the governorship candidate of the APC in the 2023 election, averred that it is poised to boost technical education in the state and in the country in general.

According to him, the institution was conceived with the intention of making it the bastion of technical and academic excellence, adding that everything is going on according to plan.

Projects visited by Omo-Agege and his entourage include the Gateway, lecture theatres, administration blocks, faculty buildings, library among others.

It would be recalled that the bill establishing the polytechnic which was signed into law by President Muhammadu Buhari in April 2022, was sponsored by Senator Omo-Agege.
