Amidst the reported crisis rocking the country’s main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Elder Godsday Orubebe, on Thursday visited Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State.

Orubebe who recently announced his decision to resign his membership from PDP visited Wike at his private residence in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

The meeting between Orubebe and the Rivers State governor was held behind closed doors and none of them spoke to journalists after the meeting.

The meeting comes barely 24 hours after the Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi met with Wike.

While the agenda of the subsequent meetings remain sketchy, it was gathered that the meeting might not be unconnected to efforts to lure the governor from PDP.

It would be recalled that Wike lost out on his presidential bid to Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and also fell short of making the Vice-Presidential candidate of the party.

Orubebe, in his letter, addressed to the PDP National Chairman, Senator lyorchia Ayu, had said that his reason for leaving the party was due to the decision of the party to throw its presidential ticket open to all regions when they should have zoned it to the south.

Also, The New Diplomat recalls that both men served together in the cabinet of former President Goodluck Jonathan before Wike resigned to contest the 2015 governorship election on the platform of the PDP.
