Former governor of Anambra state and a presidential hopeful has replied his former colleague, Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state, saying he has no right to question his integrity and commitment to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

This is as the former governor said his decision to exit the PDP and all other things he did were things he deemed right.

In the past 48 hours, reactions have been trailing Obi’s decision to exit the PDP as well as withdraw from the party’s presidential race.

Commenting on the development, Wike, a presidential hopeful questioned the loyalty of Obi to the PDP.

The governor, while speaking with Channels TV on Thursday had questioned why Obi abandoned the party who made him a Vice-presidential during the 2019 general elections.

According to him, Obi does not stand a chance of winning the party’s presidential primary if he had remained in the PDP.

Reacting during an interview with Channels TV, monitored by The New Diplomat, Obi replied Wike, saying, he has no moral standing to question his loyalty and integrity.

According to the former governor, nobody in thr PDP can boldly come out to say he never gave his best for the party.

In his words, “I came into a system and I was part of that system. I stayed there throughout the years that I was in PDP, nobody can question my loyalty to the party. I participated in everything.  And when I was going out, I didn’t go out in a clumsy situation. I did so decently, cause I have right to do so.”

Speaking on his reasons for dumping the party, Obi said some activities in the PDP are against his person and principles. He said that after campaigning across the country and presenting himself to the people he found out that there were other things he needed to do.

Though Obi remained mum on the details of the process, he said he dumped the PDP because he cannot participate in the primary process.

He added that he will rather lose the presidential election doing the right thing than win the election doing the wrong thing.

“Going on, I found that I can no longer continue because of some activities, I believe that are in variance with my person and my principles. Quite frankly, there’s, there’s nothing(for dumping PDP). I will tell people the process through which you get to arrive at any destination, especially when it comes to when it comes to seeking in a public office is as fundamental as what you do thereafter.

“So, for me I want to be able to follow a process that I believe in. Some people will tell you do anything when you get there, you can correct it. No, I don’t believe in that. The process must be same as what I do thereafter. As a politician, I have campaigned, I have gone round the country, I have done what I’m supposed to do, to present myself to the people, and I found out that there are other things I might not be able to be part of and recently withdrew myself,” he added.

The New Diplomat had recently reported that Obi formally announced his decision to join the Labour Party (LP).

Speaking on his reason for joining LP, Obi said the party is the right platform that aligns with his ambition of taking the country from consumption level to production level.
