At least one person has been confirmed dead in a fresh building collapse that occurred in Freeman Street, Lagos Island area of Lagos State.
The building collapse occurred on Saturday afternoon after a heavy rain downpour.
The affected building, a two-storey was under construction before it collapsed.
The South-West Zonal Coordinator, National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA Ibrahim Farinloye, who confirmed the incident said though one death has been recorded already, one person has also been rescued from the debris.
“One rescued alive and one died. Responders are on the way,” he said.
The New Diplomat reports that Lagos State has become notorious for building collapse in recent times, recording no fewer than three incidents of building collapse in quick succession recently in Yaba, Ebute-Metta and Okota areas of the state.
Recall that a 21-storey building on Gerard Road, Ikoyi had collapsed on November 1, 2021. About 50 persons were confirmed dead in the incident.
