…Says He’s in the Presidential Race to Change the Narrative
A presidential aspirant of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 general elections, Mazi Sam Ohuabunwa has warned Nigerians against electing politicians who use bullion vans to bribe the electorates in order to get into public offices.
Ohuanbunwa, the former chairman of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) who spoke with journalists in Benin shortly after a courtesy call on the Oba of Benin, Omo N’Oba Ewuare II advised Nigerians to look at the antecedents of the various contestants and do a background check on them in order to be able to make informed choices.
He stressed: “Those who use bullion vans to sponsor elections should be rejected. Thank God for social media and citizens’ journalism. People are now much more probing and asking. Money alone cannot solve Nigeria’s problems.”
The former president of Nigeria Economic Summit Group (NESG) said that he is in the race to change the narrative.
Ohuabunwa from Abia State noted that if individuals whose sources of wealth are questionable emerge as leaders, they only end up enthroning “corrupt and unaccountable leaders” who will ride roughshod and impoverish them.
He pleaded with delegates to the forthcoming PDP primary election to put aside sentiments and elect him as the candidate of the party by considering his depth, ideology, experience and competencies in order to eradicate the pervasive economic hardship in Nigeria.
He declared: “My belief is that Nigerians have seen the evil of corrupt leadership and are beginning to understand that electing a credible leadership is better than those who flaunt money that you cannot quite justify how they came by it.
“I think the era when politicians use public funds to bribe people to put them in the office is being challenged. I am convinced that Nigerians will listen to ideology, look at the antecedents of the various contestants and do a background check on them in order to be able to make informed choices. What is your competence level? What vision do you have? Do you have integrity?”
Oba Ewuare II prayed to God to keep Nigeria together and enthrone the right leadership at the various levels of governance in the nation.
