US lawmakers escalate Christian genocide narrative, accuse Nigeria of downplaying targeted killings

By Obinna Uballa The Nigerian government’s push to counter the Christian-genocide narrative promoted by the Donald Trump administration appears to be gaining little traction, as United States lawmakers have forcefully rejected Abuja’s position on alleged targeted killings of Christians during a rare joint congressional briefing on 'escalating religious violence in Nigeria.' The session, convened on…

Controversial Islamic cleric, Sheik Ahmad Gumi, has reacted to the gruesome murder of Deborah Samuel, a female student of Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto.

This is as the kaduna-based cleric condemned the killing of Deborah on the grounds of alleged blasphemy, saying Prophet Muhammad never killed for blasphemy during his time despite insults from his critics.

According to Gumi who is well known for his prowess as the chief negotiator of the bandits, the individuals who murdered Deborah have no justification for their actions, as the Prophet during his lifetime refrained from killing or attacking his tranducers and those who blasphemed him.

Gumi made this known while preaching in his Kaduna Juma’at mosque.

In a video clip obtained and translated by PRNigeria, Gumi condemned extra-judicial killings, saying Muslims should leave peacefully with others as Nigeria is a secular state.

In his words, “If we think by killing Deborah, people who are not of the same faith with us will stop insulting our prophet, then we are in delusion.

“Hence, anyone who kills a non-Muslim who they have agreed to live peacefully with, will not smell the fragrance of Paradise for 40 years,” Gumi was also quoted as saying by PRNigeria.

Recall the New Diplomat had reported that Deborah was beaten yo death and set ablaze by her colleagues. The students, believed to be Muslim faithfuls were said to be enraged over alleged blasphemous language used by Deborah on their WhatsApp group chat.
