Governor of Anambra State, Professor Charles Soludo, on Saturday, said the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has expressed sadness over the recent happenings in the Southeast region of Nigeria.
Soludo made this known when he visited the IPOB leader in the Department of State Security Services (DSS) detention facility, on Friday, in Abuja.
The Governor shared details of the meeting, including photos on his verified social media handles on Saturday night.
According to Soludo, Nnamdi Kanu was happy to receive him and in high spirits, they had quality and frank discussions in a very convivial atmosphere.
Soludo said Nnamdi Kanu was not happy over the insecurity in the region and described the killings as “sacrilegious killings” of innocent persons, kidnappings, and all forms of criminalities, including the brutal enforcement of the senseless “sit at home” perpetuated by sundry groups claiming to be acting for or on behalf of IPOB”.
The governor said the IPOB leader assured him that if the opportunity arises, he will be glad to personally broadcast to his followers to maintain peace.
It would be recalled that there had been increased attacks on security agencies, government facilities, and high-profile individuals in the Southeast region, since the re-arrest of the IPOB Leader, which has been blamed on the group.
But IPOB has consistently denied responsibility for the attacks, reiterating that it is a non-violent organization.
Recall that Nnamdi Kanu was re-arrested in Kenya and extradited to Nigeria last year, although Kenyan authorities had reportedly denied claims that the country was aware of his arrest.
The IPOB leader who was re-arraigned before a Federal High Court, in Abuja, was tried for alleged treasonable felony and terrorism, allegations he has continued to deny.
The group is seeking the creation of an independent state of Biafra to be carved out of the southeast and parts of South-South.
