Chairman of Southern Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, and National Vice President, South-East Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) Bishop Maxwell Korie has called out presidential candidates who have not condemned the gruesome murder of Deborah Samuel over blasphemy allegation, urging voters to shun them ahead of the 2023 general elections.

The enraged Bishop, who made the call during a conference on Friday in Ebonyi warned Nigerians not to vote for ‘cowards’ noting that such crop of leaders are not good for the country.

”We are keeping track of the responses of the Presidential candidates. If any of them is such a coward, that he refuses to make an appropriate statement about this, we now know that we should not entrust the affairs of the country into such a hand,” he said.

As at press time, only former Senate President Anyim Pius Anyim among the 2023 presidential hopefuls like Osinbajo, Atiku, Tinubu, Saraki, has publicly condemned the killing of the 200-level student of Shehu Shagari College of Education.

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar had earlier condemned the murder through his Twitter handle but later deleted the post. Some believe that he deleted it to maintain his fan base ahead of the 2023 presidential election.

Korie also asked the Federal Government not to treat the serious issue with kid gloves, adding that: “To the Federal Government, we are saying that we just don’t just want to hear statements of condemnations about what has happened, we want to hear statements of definite actions of the federal government to bring justice over this matter.

“All the people involved must be given the appropriate punishment according to the laws of the land. It is a case of wicked murder. It’s not manslaughter.

“They moved against her with a deliberate intention to get her eliminated. So it is not a case of manslaughter,”

Deborah Samuel was a 200 level student of Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto. She was killed in Sokoto State for blasphemy on Thursday. The female student was stoned to death and her body burnt by a mob who accused her of insulting Prophet Muhammad.
