Following a stellar career characterised by dedication, performance and political sagacity, Deputy President of the Nigerian Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, on Thursday, officially declared his ambition to vie for the Delta State governorship seat under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in the forthcoming 2023 general elections.

The Delta-born politician made this declaration at the Federal University of Petroleum Resources Effurun (FUPRE) as thousands of supporters trooped out to the venue to show support for Omo-Agege.

Speaking at the event, Senator Omo-Agege who represents Delta central senatorial district in the Senate said he is vying for the governorship seat in order to bring development being enjoyed by his Senatorial district across the whole of Delta state.

The Deputy President of the Nigerian Senate described the large turnout at his declaration event as an indication that the Delta people are fed up with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)-led government and are ready to elect him into government in 2023.

Reeling out his achievements as a Senator representing Delta Central, Omo Agege said he has fulfilled the promises he made to his people by bringing infrastructural development to the nuke and crannies of the Urhobo nation.

He noted that all villages, communities and cities in the Urhobo nation had benefitted from the solar-powered street lights, transformers, renovation of classrooms and other infrastructural developments he facilitated.

This, according to him, is a testament that when given more opportunity he would serve the people more.

Omo-Agege who assured Deltans that his infrastructural strides across communities in Delta Central would be replicated statewide if elected as Governor, also urged electorate in Delta to “chase away PDP” from the Osadebe government house in Asaba, lamenting that several parts of the oil-rich state have been “underdeveloped by the Governor Okowa-led PDP government.”

In Senator Omo-Agege’s words: “I thank all members of the APC national working committee and everyone present. This is a testament that we are tired of the People’s Democratic Party PDP and we are ready to Chase away PDP from Asaba. You sent me to the Senate in 2015 and I represented you well. In 2019 you supported me back to the Senate and I emerged the Deputy Senate President. I thank Mr. President Muhammadu Buhari for standing by us to be number two in the Nigeria Senate.

“First I am here to report back to you that I have fulfilled all the promises I made to you during my electioneering campaigns. Today every communities Urhobo Land has solar power street lights, Additional Transformers, renovation of primary and secondary schools, additional health centers and a brand new Federal Polytechnic at Orogun, defence state school and Nigeria Law School Campus in Delta State. We are also about to get a new Federal University of Agriculture in Aboh and many more. This is what I have done for my people.

“I therefore want to bring same to Delta North and Delta South. We will not allow Okowa to continue to marginalize us. Okowa has continued to marginalize the Ndokws nation. Oshimili North and south, nothing to show. Youths left the university for over 10years without job. Okowa wants you to drive Keke while his people are using the best flashy cars. It is on this ground that we say enough is enough for PDP.

“Hence I want to leave my comfort zone which is Delta Central Senatorial District to develop the entire Delta state.

“Today, I am offering myself to serve the entire state’, because according to him, several part of the state are grossly marginalised and underdeveloped by the Governor Okowa-led PDP government.” Omo-Agege added.

Some notable chieftains of the APC present at the event are the Deputy Governor of Imo, Mr  Placid Njoku, his Kogi State counterpart, Mr Edward Onoja, National Vice Chairman, South-south of the party, Mr Victor Giadom,  Chief O’tega Emerhor, Senator Representing Delta North,Peter Nwaboshi; Chief Ayiri Emami, Chief Frank Ovie Kokori and many others.

Also present at the ceremony are member representing Udu, Ughelli North and South Federal Constituency, Hon. Francis Waive; former Edo APC governorship candidate Pastor Ize-Iyamu; Delta APC leader, Olorogun O’tega Emerhor; APC chieftain, Chief Frank Kokori and ex-APC chairman in Delta, Prophet Jones Erue.
