Ado-odo/Ota Citizens Engagement Platform (AOCEP), has demanded for the sack of the Ogun State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker over allegations that he misappropriated medical equipment donated to the Ota General Hospital and environs.

The concerned citizens in a petition addressed to Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun state alleged thatĀ Coker directed thatĀ  one set of AnastaticĀ  Machine and Dialysis Machine which were donated to Ota General Hospital byĀ Nigeria Portland Cement (Lafarge) and Uniliver Nigeria Plc be removed and taken to Abeokuta.

The citizens lamented that the comissioner in her judgment directed that equipment donated to Ota General Hospital and meant to be used for the treatment of the vastly populated people and residents of the Ota community and by extension citizens and residents in Ado-Odo Local Government Area and its environs be relocated to her place of choice, thereby denying residents in the densely populated town and LGA the right to life and medical treatment.

According to the aggrieved citizens, the act of the commissioner is tantamountĀ to corruption, misappropriation, and outright hatred for the good people of Ota and Ado-Odo communities, “then we wonder what better adjective her actions towards us can be best described.”

The petition partly reads, “That Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun should direct that the actions of the Honorable Commissioner for Health above stated be reversed and the Dialysis machine and Anastatic machine now lying in Ijaye State Hospital in Abeokuta taken away from the Ota General Hospital be returned within the next seven days.

“That the Honorable Commissioner for health, Dr. Tomi Coker be relieved of her appointment as she no longer supports the grassroots health initiative of our amiable Governor.

“The Ogun State Government should as a matter of urgency increiase the manpower of ď1¹ and Nurses in Ota General Hospital to reflect the capacity of the Hospital.

“We are lawful people and citizens of this great country, and we would go the extra mile to ensure that our rights are not only protected but also never trampled with by anybody, no matter how highly placed such individual might be, hence this petition.”
