A 6-year-old kindergarten three pupil of Greater Academy in Orhuwhorun, Udu Local Government Area of Delta State has been crushed to death as the wall separating her classroom from another suddenly collapsed and fell on her.

The incident occured at the close of school last Tuesday when the pupil whose identity was not immediately released was leaning on the wall, waiting for her younger brother who is in another class to come over so that they could go home together.

The deceased, the third in a family of four was by the wall, waiting for her sibling when the blocks suddenly fell on her.

It was gathered that she had bent down and was about to pick up her lunch bag when the incident happened .

The tragedy resulted in a bedlam as some angry youths in the neighbourhood mobilized to vandalize the school but for the quick intervention of some residents.

The proprietress however managed to escape as she immediately fled the school and sought refuge at the nearby police station where she reported the incident just as an angry mob surrounded the school in a desperate attempt to burn it down.

Some residents said that the incident would have been prevented if the school management had used a wooden type of demarcation rather than block.

In distress the father of the deceased child who refused to disclose his name said: “I don’t want any police case in this unfortunate incident, it is a painful time for my family, as nothing can bring back my daughter. I have buried my daughter and I want the proprietor released and as I don’t want to pursue this.”

Several attempts to reach the Delta Police spokesman, Mr. Bright Edafe proved futile but a police source in Asaba however disclosed that the proprietor has been released, as further investigations are still going on.
