Delta state government on Saturday, has broken silence on the death of Sylvester Oromoni, a 12-year-old student of Dowen College located in Lekki area of the state.
The governor who took to his official Facebook page revealed that he spoke to the father of the late student, who had died few days to his birthday Saturday.
Okowa revealed that during his communication with the father, he assured that the state government will work with the Lagos State government to ensure that all the perpetrators involved in the death of the Delta-born student are fished out and brought to book.
The governor also commiserated with the family of the deceased, praying that God will grant them solace to bear the loss.
He wrote, “Last night, I spoke to Mr. Sylvester Oromoni, the father of late Sylvester Oromoni Jr., the Dowen College student who unfortunately died under very controversial and unclear circumstances.
“During the call, I expressed my agreement with the decision of the Lagos State government to launch an investigation into the death of Sylvester, a native of Warri South LGA in Delta State.
“As a government that places priority on the lives of our citizens within and outside the state, we are determined to pursue this case to the end. The matter must be investigated, perpetrators apprehended, punished, and made an example of, to serve as a very strong deterrence against future occurrences.
“As we continue to watch this case closely, we extend our prayers and support to the Oromoni family. As they mourn the loss of their young son, I pray that Almighty God gives them the strength that they need at this difficult time. Amen.”
Sylvester, a student of Dowen College died after he was reportedly bullied by his fellow colleagues.
A family member of the student identified as Perri who took to his twitter page claimed that his cousin was bullied for refusing to join a cult group in the school.
However, the school authorities, in a statement denied the claims, saying Sylvester was neither bullied nor beaten. The school authorities said he died after sustaining an injury during a football match.
The Lagos state government, in a move ordered the closure of the Dowen College pending the outcome of the investigation on the circumstances surrounding the death of Sylvester.
Meanwhile, Nigerians have continued to demand for justice as the 12-year-old celebrates his first posthumous birthday today. The hashtag #justiceforsylvester continues to trend on social media.
