The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has issued a three-week ultimatum to the Federal Government to address all pending issues in a memorandum of understanding signed in December 2020.

ASUU President, Professor Emmanuel Osodeke, who addressed journalist at the University of Abuja also threatened to embark on a nationwide industrial action should the government fail to meet their demands by the expiration of the ultimatum.

The ASUU President, lamented that FG has failed to fulfill their demands ranging from payment of earned allowances, introduction of the University Transparency and Accountability Solution (UTAS) platform for University workers, payment of revitalization fund, among others.

He also added that the decision to issue a 3-week ultimatum to FG was reached during a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting which held in the nation’s capital.

Recall that ASUU in March 2020 had embarked on a nationwide strike following its disagreement with the government over the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS), among other issues.

The union had asked the government to exempt its members from the IPPIS mode of payment pending the approval of the proposed payment system – the UTAS favoured by the union.
