Senator Shehu Sani, who represents the Kaduna Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly, has lamented the neglect of his former colleague, Senator Nelson Effiong in Kidnapper’s den.

Shehu who posted a picture of himself addressing the Senate house, while Senator Effiong sat behind him, noted that Effiong had spent close to two months in the hands of kidnappers.

“Senator Nelson Effiong (behind me) has spent close to two months in the hands of kidnappers; my thoughts and prayers for him and his family.”

Senator Nelson Effiong, who represented Eket Senatorial District in Akwa Ibom State, was kidnapped on Monday, 13 of September,2021 by three armed men at his lounge, a popular sit-out along Oron Road in Uyo.

The hoodlums reportedly stormed the venue at about 9pm on Sunday night and opened fire on customers.

The senator was later taken away while several patrons at the bar were injured.

Gunmen, later asked the family of the victim to pay the sum of N200million to secure his release, according to a source close to the family.

“They have reached the family and are demanding for 200 million naira. And the question is, where is the family going to get that kind of money with the way things are in the state? We pray for him to regain his freedom,” the source said.

Effiong represented Akwa Ibom South (Eket) Senatorial District in the National Assembly between 2011 and 2015.

It was not clear whether his saga has any political undertone in view of the internal squabble rocking his party, the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the oil-rich state.

It was gathered that several bullets were extracted from one of the victims who was rushed to an undisclosed hospital.
