Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano has revealed that the threat to declare an emergency rule in his state was not President Muhammadu Buhari’s idea.
This was made known by Obiano while speaking to State House Correspondents after a meeting with Buhari in the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Thursday.
He explained that he told the President about the Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami’s comment during their meeting.
Obiano noted that the threat is unfortunate, wondering why Malami had not contemplated the imposition of emergency rule in northern states despite massive killings occasioned by banditry there.
“That’s a very unfortunate comment by the Attorney-General. Malami. Very unfortunate. I also reported that to the President and this is not in the books of the President because he knows that Anambra has been the safest state in Nigeria for seven years plus.
“I will call the Attorney General to express my mind to him over the suggestion, apart from the recent security crisis, Anambra had been the most peaceful State in the south east,” he added.
The New Diplomat had reported that the Federal Government’s threat to impose a state of emergency in Anambra state should insecurity persist in the state before the November 6 governorship election has elicited reactions from the state government and Nigerians.
The Attorney-General of the Federation, Malami made the threat while addressing a press conference after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting which held at the state house, Abuja and presided over by President Buhari.
The AGF threatened that the government will take all necessary steps to ensure that Anambra is safe ahead of the upcoming election.
