Nine passengers of an intra-city commercial bus have been reportedly killed at Sapele Road by Ogbelaka Junction in Benin, Edo State by a heavy-duty truck early Tuesday morning.

According to eyewitnesses, the sand-conveying truck, which had brake failure, rammed into the moving commercial bus, popularly called Tuke-Tuke, killing the nine passengers on the spot before hitting another truck towards the Government Reservation Area (GRA).

Meanwhile, the remains of the deceased have been deposited in a morgue while the injured passengers were rushed to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the nearby Edo Specialist Hospital in Benin.

The accident led to gridlock with many motorists and commuters groaning, forcing many people to trek to their destinations.

Security operatives, including policemen and members of vigilance groups were attempting to restore normalcy at the scene of the accident as at the time of filing this report.
