Human rights activist and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Femi Falana is set to represent the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) at the National Industrial Court in battle with the Federal Government.

This was confirmed by the Chairman of Communication and Communique, NARD, Dr. Julian Ojebo.

He confirmed that the association has gotten the services of Falana to help in challenging the no-work, no-pay position of the FG at the industrial court.

The face-off between the FG and NARD had taken centre stage since August 1, when the latter decided to embark on a nationwide strike over poor treatment and lack of infrastructural development.

The NARD lamented the inability of the FG to meed some of their demands which include immediate salary payment to all house officers and an upward review of the current hazard allowance to 50 per cent of consolidated salaries of all health workers.

In another move, the FG implemented a no work no pay policy on the residence doctors.

Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire, in viral a memo had directed the Chief Medical Directors (CMDs) and Medical Directors (MDs) of all the federal tertiary hospitals across the country to commence the implementation of the policy following the insistence of the doctors on continuing with the strike.

Subsquently, the FG through the the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, headed by Dr Chris Ngige, referred the trade dispute with the NARD to the National Industrial Court for arbitration.
