The crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), further hots up Tuesday, as the Deputy National Chairman (North), Senator Sulieman Nazif declared himself as the party’s acting national chairman.

This came minutes after the Deputy National Chairman (South) of the PDP, Yemi Akinwonmi, had taken over the leadership of the opposition’s party following the suspension of Uche Secondus as the party’s national chairman as earlier reported by The New Diplomat.

A Rivers High Court in Port Harcourt on Monday, had granted an order restraining Secondus from parading himself as the National Chairman and member of the PDP pending the determination of a suit filed against him.

Meanwhile, Nazif who addressed a press conference in Abuja has rejected the declaration of Akinwonmi as the PDP’s acting national chairman, saying he has no constitutional rights to hold the position.

Nazif, who was joined by nine members of the National Working Committee (NWC), Nazif, said his declaration is in accordance with the party’s constitution as amended.
