A former presidential aide, Doyin Okupe, has said that the description of former Nigerian Military President, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB) on his choice of Nigeria’s next president perfectly suits him.

Okupe added that IBB was making reference to him in a recent interwiew, where he reeled out criteria for his would-be presidential candidate.

Okupe, who was an aide to former president, Goodluck Jonathan said he has all the criteria to become the country’s next president, as listed by Babangida.

According to Babangida, Nigeria’s next president should be in his 60s, and vast in the matters of the economy in line with modern systems.

Babangida, in his opinion had stated that only someone in his 60s, who believes in the unity of Nigeria, armed with leadership experience in public service, with valuable contacts that cut across different regions can effectively run the affairs of the country.

Reacting to the description of the elder statesman, Okupe, while speaking during an interview on Arise TV, said Babangida was making reference to him.

According to Okupe, he is the most prepared person for job. He further added that he has valuable contacts across the country and is within the age range prescribed by Babangida.

Okupe said Babangida must have had him in mind when he was reeling out the qualities for the next Nigerian president.

In his words, “I believe when IBB was making that speech, he was talking about me. I haven’t spoken with him in a long time, I agree with all his points.

“I am part of the three individuals IBB was talking about. I am the most prepared person for the job.

“There is nowhere in the country I don’t have contact.”
