The embattled National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Uche Secondus, has stated that he won’t resign his position despite deluge of calls for his resignation by members of the main opposition party.
The PDP National Chairman claimed the development in the party so far does not warrant him resigning his position.
This is coming after some aggrieved members of the PDP on Monday stormed the streets of Abuja to demand the resignation of Secondus.
The protesters while pressing home their demands displayed various placards with inscriptions, “Secondus Must Go”; “We can’t afford to lose more governors”; “Who are you working for Mr Secondus?”, among others inscriptions.
Speaking at the protest ground, the leader of the protest, Comrade Tamunotonye Iniorib, accused the National Chairman of polarising the party for selfish interest. According to him, Secondus is responsible for the current defection storm the party is witnessing.
Reacting, Secondus rejected the calls by the aggrieved members, saying that he will remain focused to lead the party to greater heights.
This was contained in a terse press statement by Secondus’s Special Assistant on Media, Ike Abonyi.
The statement read, “The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Prince Uche Secondus has said that he will not resign his position.
“He said he will remain focused and committed to the ideals of the party which he swore to protect and defend upon his election to lead this great party 44 months ago.”
