Senator (Mrs.) Joy Emordi, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party Board of Trustees, has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing national cohesion as the reason for her decision to jump ship.

Emordi was officially received by Governor Mai Mala Buni, Chairman of the APC Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee at a brief ceremony in Abuja, Wednesday.

In a statement issued by Mamman Mohammed, Emordi said she joined the APC because she was convinced that the future of a prosperous and united Nigeria lies in the ruling party.

She described the APC leadership as the one that is genuinely committed to a united Nigeria that has plans for future generation.

She reportedly said, “l assure the party of my loyalty and support and to work for the success of the party. The APC led federal government is working for the South East and this is attracting more PDP members into APC.”

Emordi dumped the PDP a day after seven members of the National Working Committee of the party resigned their position. Their resignation has further put Uche Secondus, national chairman of the PDP under intense pressure to step down following the gale of defection that the opposition pary has continued to witness recently.

In his reaction, Buni said the coming of Sen. Emordi and other prominent politicians from the South East into the APC will promote national unity.

“The South East is a strong political bloc and very crucial to the unity of the country, this will mo doubt add to national cohesion,”Buni said.

Former Senate President Ken Nnamani; Governor Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi State; and Governor Abubakar Badaru of Jigawa State, were among those who welcomed her to the ruling party.
