Some unidentified armed bandits have attacked the convoy of Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano State while returning from Zamfara State, Tuesday.

It was gathered that the bandits engaged the security operatives of the Governor in a firece gun battle along Shema in Katsina State.

However, Ganduje was not in the convoy when the armed bandits struck and blocked the road.

The Governor was in Zamfara State on Tuesday to welcome his counterpart, Governor Bello Matawalle who had defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to reports, Ganduje didn’t join his convoy while travelling back to Kano but rathered joined the convoy of Governor Muhammadu Abubakar Badaru of Jigawa State.

A source reportedly said Ganduje was not happy that his convoy did not fill their tanks for the return journey and decided to join Badaru, ordering his convoy to proceed to Kano State.

While the Governor’s convoy was travelling back to Kano State, the armed bandits unleashed heavy gun attacks. But the security operatives were able to repel the attack.

Three police officers sustained minor bullet injuries during the attack, while the convoy’s ambulance was riddled with bullets.

Also, one of the convoy’s vehicle reportedly lost its tires after being hit by bullets.

This is coming after a Zamfara State lawmaker was murdered by some armed bandits on Tuesday night.

The New Diplomat had recently reported Mr Muhammad Ahmad, the lawmaker representing Shinkafi Constituency in the Zamfara House state of Assembly was shot dead few hours after he officially defected to the APC from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
