Governor Bello Matawalle of Zamfara State, is reportedly set to dump the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday.

This is as plans are underway for a mega rally to be held by the Zamfara State chapter of the APC to welcome the Governor alongside some other prominent politicians in the state.

According to reports, the rally will hold at the Trade Fair Complex in Gusau, the state capital by 10am on Tuesday.

The Personal Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Digital and New Media, Bashir Ahmed, had earlier disclosed that the governor had returned to the ruling party.

The presidential aide made this disclosure on his official Facebook page on Sunday morning.

He wrote ‘’So Zamfara is back home! Welcome, Matawalle’’.

Also, The New Diplomat had reported that Matawalle has been linked to joining the ruling APC over the past few months.

There have been speculations that the Governor considered the move to boost his chances of getting re-elected in 2023.

Recall that Matawalle became the Governor through a Supreme Court ruling. He was defeated by Muktar Idris, the APC candidate in the March 2019 gubernatorial election, however the Supreme Court nullified the candidacy of Idris due to the APC’s primary election in the state that led to series of legal tussles and conundrums.
