Immediate past Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok Ekwe Ibas (rtd), former Chief of Air Staff Sadique Abubakar (rtd) and former Chief of Defence Intelligence, Air Vice Marshal Sani Usman (rtd) have been handed their ambassadorial portfolios.
Usman is the ambassador-designate to the Republic of Niger, while Ibas and Abubakar were handed the Republic of Ghana and Chad ambassadorial portfolios respectively.
The Federal Government made this announcement on its official social media handle, Wednesday.
Usman, Ibas and Abubakar have now joined former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Yusufu Buratai (Rtd) and the immediate past Chief of Defence Staff, General Abayomi Gabriel Olonisakin (Retired) among envoys who have been presented with their Letters of Credence.
Recall that the immediate past service chiefs were nominated as ambassadors by President Muhammadu Buhari on 4th February 2021 and confirmed by the Senate on February 23, 2021.
Their nomination by the President had sparked widespread condemnation from Nigerians, but the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, had in February advised President Buhari to deploy the former service chiefs to neighbouring countries battling security issues in collaboration with Nigeria.
