Teargas canisters have been fired at pro-democracy protesters in the Nigerian capital-Abuja, Lagos, and Ibadan on Saturday.
The protesters staged the protest to demand an end to bad governance in the country as part of activities marking the June 12 democracy day.
In Abuja, protesters, who had gathered around Gudu market scampered for safety as police reportedly fired teargas at them.
The protesters in Abuja gathered around 8:30 am to express their displeasure over the state of the nation were dispersed with tear-gas.
Also, policemen fired tear gas canisters at the protesters, who stormed the Gani Fawehinmi Park in Lagos, venue of the June 12 Democracy Day protest.
The police had already taken position at the park before the protesters marched into the park.
The protesters brandished different placards with inscriptions like “Revert electricity tariff now”, “End Bad Government” among others.
Protesters were also tear-gassed in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital as placards carrying various descriptions were also destroyed.
The New Diplomat cannot immediately confirm whether or not any arrest has been made as of the time of this reporting.
However, the police had on Friday threatened to stop the June 12 protests nationwide, noting it will forestall any breakdown of law and order by any individual or group, drawing parallel between the action and the EndSARS protests of October, 2020.
