President Muhammadu Buhari has stated that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will determine where the presidential seat would be zone to ahead of the 2023 general elections.

As activities for the election are building up, the President has said that no individual has the power to decide who will succeed him.

Buhari, who spoke during an interview session with the Arise TV, and monitored by The New Diplomat said it is the responsibility of eligible members of the APC to determine the fate of the party on zoning.

The president also noted that the party has already begun the process, noting that the date for the National Convention would be communicated soon.

In his words, “We will start from bottom to up, I gave the NWC chairman the end of June but he asked for extension for them to put together the committee in charge of the National Convention. They are going to give me report by the end of the month on the convention we are going to conduct and then arrange the general election up to 2023, all the elections.

“We are going to start this from bottom to up, so that members of the party will feel they are involved in the decision making. Nobody shall sit in the Lagos and tell them what to do.

“My succession depends on the party. We are going to leave that to the party, the party will sit to decide. So those who want to be president better join APC.”

Speaking on the unemployment rate in Nigeria, President Buhari blamed the Nigerian youth for being responsible for the situation in the country.

According to the President, there is no more job vacancy at the Federal, State government and Local governments, adding that the problem is compounded with the fact that investors are not ready to invest in the country because of the security situation.

Recall that the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) had reported that about 23.19 million Nigerians were unemployed in the fourth quarter of 2020, accounting for one in every three Nigerians without a job.

According to the report released by the NBS in March, 33.3% of the population in Nigeria is unemployed.

The report shows that the number of unemployed individuals in Nigeria stood at 23.19 million people in the fourth quarter of 2020.

Reacting to the high unemployment rate, the President tasked the Nigerian youths to secure the country, adding that if the country is secured, investors will invest in the country and there will be job opportunities.

In his words: “There is no more job vacancy in the Federal Government. Go to the state government, they will tell you ‘no vacancy’. The same thing with the local government. So, I told the youths that if they want job, they would behave themselves and make sure Nigeria is secure so that people can invest. Nigeria is resourceful, everybody knows it, God endowed us. However, nobody can look at the destruction and insecurity situation of the country and invest his money.

“So behave yourself and make Nigeria secure, then people will invest in the country.”
