Ashaka Police Station in Ndokwa East of Delta State has been razed to the ground by unknown armed men in the early hours of Sunday, June 6.
In a press statement released by the spokesperson of the Delta State Police Command, DSP Bright Edafe, the command stated that the armed men who were shooting sporadically, stormed the Police Station in the early hours of Sunday June 6, hurled improvised Explosive Device, IEDs at the station, setting it ablaze and burning down a Police patrol vehicle.
According to the statement, no life was lost and no arm was stolen from the station before the armed men were repelled.
The Police assured that investigation had started, adding that the perpetrators of the dastardly act must be arrested and be brought to justice.
The statement read: “In the early hours of today 6/6/21 at about 0100hours, some enemies of the community and that of the police all armed men numbering about twenty stormed Ashaka police station.
“They threw IEDS at the station, shot sporadically, and set the police station that was built by the community/DESOPADEC ablaze.
“They also burnt down one patrol vehicle also bought for the police division by good people of the community just to ensure that police presence is not felt.
“It is pertinent to state that no life was lost and no arm was taken away. However, the police will not relent in ensuring that law and order is maintained in any community.
“Unprovoked attacks on the police will not deter the police from providing the needed security in any community in Delta state. The hoodlums who perpetrated this dastardly act will certainly not go free, as serious efforts are on to arrest them and bring them to book.”
The State Command also disclosed that, acting on a rip-off, it successfully stormed a hideout of suspected armed robbers and kidnappers in the early hours of June 5, where six hoodlums were killed after a gun battle.
According to the statement, an AK47 rifle, one pump action gun and a number of live ammunitions were recovered during the raid on the hideout.
The statement signed by the PPRO, also disclosed that “On 5/6/21 at about 2130hours, the men of Delta state command while on stop and search duty along Patani-Bayelsa road intercepted A
“Sienna bus with Reg. no. LSR 813 XL with four occupants, on sighting the police, they quickly tried to maneuver in a bid to escape.
“The police went after them, and on searching the vehicle, one locally-made
“Barretta Pistol was recovered, and four suspects namely, Efe Oyenikoro ‘m’ Felix George ‘m’ Emmanuel Job ‘m’ Joan Yapiteghe ‘m’ were arrested.”
It added that the Command under the watch of CP Ari Muhammed Ali will not relent, as the CP has given marching order to all tactical commanders, DPOs and men of the command to be on their toes, gather intelligence and take the battle to the den of criminals.
While assuring of its preparedness to fight and reduce crime to its barest minimum in the State, the command enjoined members of the public to volunteer information that will assist the police to do its job diligently.
It would be recalled that the Ashaka Police Station incident makes it the third of such attacks on the Police in recent months in the state. The other two happened in Iselle Uku, Umutu all in Delta North Senatorial District of the State.
