President Muhammadu Buhari has commiserated with the Benue State Government and its people on the recent tanker explosion incidents in Agatu Local Government Area of the State.

The President also condoles with the families of the victims that lost their lives to the two fire accidents.

The New Diplomat had reported that Agatu LGA recorded two tanker explosions in the space of three days.

On Tuesday, a tanker conveying Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) also known as petrol exploded.

Similarly, on Sunday, a tanker conveying petrol lost its balance and spilled its contents on the Oshigbudu-Obagaji road in Agatu LGA, which later resulted in a fire outbreak. Twelve persons have been confirmed to have lost their lives in the incident, according to the Federal Road Safety Corp (FRSC)

Reacting, President Buhari through a statement issued by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, expressed concerns on the frequency of the explosions in Benue State.

Buhari also tasked the traffic authorities and transportation ministry on the need to be proactive to ensure that public safety is not compromised in any way.

The President also urged motorists in the state and across Nigeria to strictly adhere to the rules and regulations laid down by the FRSC in a bid to avoid future occurrences.
