The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Ikeja, Lagos State Branch has threatened to join the ongoing strike of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) over the demand for financial autonomy.

According to the chairman of NBA Ikeja, Bartholomew Aguegbodo, the demands of JUSUN are in line with the provisions of the constitution, and the failure of the government to comply is a violation of the constitution.

Members of the JUSUN had embarked on a nationwide strike action over non-compliance with the financial autonomy act of 2018 which was signed into law by President Muhammadu Buhari on May 22, 2020.

However, after a meeting of the NBA Ikeja branch executive at the Bar Centre, GRA Ikeja, Aguegbodo announced that the members have agreed to join the ongoing strike, if the meeting between the Governors’ Forum and the JUSUN fails to resolve the dispute.

According to him, if the governor fails to agree on implementation of financial autonomy for the judiciary, the branch, “would have no other option than to take further steps to compel them to comply with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution, as amended.”,
