  • As Fayose Welcomes Makinde’s Leadership

There was palpable tension at the venue of the Zonal Congress of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osogbo, in the late hours of Monday, following a reported attempt by some suspected hoodlums to forcefully enter the premises.

The Southwest zonal congress held at the Women and Children Development Initiative Foundation (WOCDIF) in Osogbo, Osun State.

It was gathered that the incident coincided with the period former Governor of Ekiti State was about to leave the venue.

It was also gathered that Fayose had casted his vote at the ongoing congress, which started at about 4:45 pm, Monday.

The voting was done in alphabetically order, with Ekiti State kick-starting the voting.

However, Fayose’s exit from the venue wouldn’t go unnoticed as some suspected hoodlums were reportedly seen at the entrance of the venue trying to forcefully enter the premises.

The security operatives, however, repelled the invasion as they shot sporadically to disperse suspected hoodlums at the entrance to the venue.

Osun State Commissioner of Police, Wale Olokode, led the security team that dispersed the hoodlums, and ensured that there is peace at the venue of the ongoing zonal congress.

Following the intervention of the security agency, Fayose was seen whisked away from the venue, unhurt.

Meanwhile, the acrimonious relationship between Fayose and Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has been settled, as both PDP chieftain were seen hugging each other at the venue of the Zonal Congress.

Fayose and Makinde have been at loggerheads over the leadership of the PDP’s chapter of Southwest.

Makinde is reportedly supporting the candidacy of Mr. Taofeek Arapaja, a former Oyo State Deputy Governor as the party chairman of the region, while Fayose is reportedly supporting Mr. Eddy Olafeseo, a former governorship candidate of Ondo State.

However, Fayose conceded that Makinde is the Party’s leader in Southwest given the fact that he is the only PDP serving Governor in the zone.

Fayose who was speaking at the Congress stated that Makinde is the ‘father’ of the PDP chapter of Southwest.

In his words, “Nothing will last forever. And if I have offended anybody, I apologise. Don’t allow them to give us a name that is bout ours in Yorubaland. The time of our Governor Seyi Makinde will not fail. Seyi Makinde and I are one since. But under any leadership regardless of the level, you are our father. God will help you succeed.”
