A Nigerian federal lawmaker, Hon. Haruna Maitala, is dead.

Maitala was a member of the House of Representatives, who represented Jos North/Bassa Federal Constituency.

Ibrahim Saleh Maitala, the eldest son of the lawmaker confirmed his death on Saturday.

According to Ibrahim, the lawmaker was involved in a fatal road accident along Bade-Gitata road,on Friday night, on his way to Jos.

However, all efforts to rescue the lawmaker proved abortive as he passed away at a hospital in Keffi, Nassarawa State.

Maitala who hailed from Plateau State, also died alongside his son, driver and security aide, who were all in the vehicle.

His death comes barely a month after another lawmaker, Yuguda Hassan-Kila, who represented Gwaram Federal Constituency of Jigawa State, passed on.

Ten federal lawmakers have died since the inauguration of the ninth assembly in 2019.

It would be recalled that in December, 2019, the green chamber lost two of their members. Ja’afaru Illiyasu, who represented Magamu/Rijau Federal Constituency of Niger State, died on December 2, 2019.

Also, Muhammadu Adamu Fagen-Gawo, who represented Garki/Bubara constituency of Jigawa State, died on December 31, 2019. He died in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) while on a medical trip.

Recently, Ossy Prestige, who represented Aba North/South Federal Constituency, passed away on February 8, 2021. He died after suffering from a protracted illness.
