Popular O’odua activist, Mr Sunday Adeyemo, otherwise known as Igboho has disclosed that he rejected a letter from the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr Mohammed Adamu.
Igboho’s spokesperson, Mr Olayomi Koiki, claimed that the DHL Courier Services brought a letter from the IGP on Thursday afternoon, adding that few hours later, a team of Police Officers numbering up to 15 stormed the residence of Igboho to deliver another letter from the IGP.
Koiki, who disclosed this during a live video session stated that they rejected both letters due to security reasons.
Recall that in January, Igboho’s house located in Soka area of Ibadan, Oyo State, was razed down by some suspected arsonists.
Similarly, in February, a joint team of Nigerian Police Force (NPF) and the Department of State Services (DSS) had attempted to arrest Igboho, but the attempt was foiled by his supporters.
Speaking further in a statement, Koiki, also stated that they didn’t receive the letters due to safety reasons as such a letter had led to the death of a revered Nigerian Journalist, Mr Dele Giwa.
According to him, “We should all remember how letters had been sent to previous Yoruba sons like late Dele Giwa.”
Recall that Giwa, was reportedly killed at the age of 39 by a parcel bomb at his residence in Lagos on October 19, 1986. It was reported then that the journalist was assassinated for exposing some of the alleged ill actions of the General Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida-led military government.
According to Koiki, all the recent events happening to his principal are not mere coincidence, adding that Igboho has decided not to honor the invitation unless the IGP invites him publicly so everyone knows what’s going on.
The statement reads: “We would like to tell the international communities and every Nigerian that this morning 1st of April, 2021, a letter was sent via DHL to Chief Sunday Igboho but the letter was not received by his security operatives. Later around 3pm of same day a team of about 6 men without uniform arrived in a corolla car and another 9 were in police uniform but all were identified as police officers. They wanted to see chief Sunday Igboho with a letter said to have been addressed to him by the Inspector General of Police. Again the letter was not received by chief Sunday’s security team. Chief Sunday would like to know why a letter was sent to him and for what purpose. If the IG of police wants to invite him, we would like him to first send same letter to all the bandits and boko-haram killing our mother’s and farmers and those kidnapping them. Since the IG of police wants to invite him, he should make a public statement addressed to Chief Sunday Igboho. We should all remember how letters had been sent to previous Yoruba Sons like Late Dele Giwa.”
It would be recalled that Igboho has been in the news since the ultimatum he gave to the fulani herdsmen in Ibarapa area of Oyo State, following the rising cases of kidnapping, killings, maiming, raping, among other criminalities.
Recall also that Adamu had reportedly ordered the arrest of Igboho following the tension that escalated as a result of the ultimatum.
