The crisis rocking the Ebonyi state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) took another dimension on Satuday as Onyekachi Nwebonyi, a former Chairman of the party in the state, alongside some former executive committee members dumped the PDP for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The defection officially took place at the Pa Oruta Township Stadium in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital.

Nwebonyu and others were received by Ebonyi State Acting Chairman of the APC,
Stanley Okoroemegha.

The Nwebonyu-led PDP executive in the state was dissolved last November after accusing Nwebonyu of anti-party activities.

Following the dissolution, the PDP constituted a caretaker committee led by Fred Udeogu.

Nwebonyu, through his Lawyer, Nnachi Okoro, subsequently filed a suit at the Federal High Court, Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, seeking a court order to strike out the caretaker committee.

Nwebonyu, argued that his purported removal from office was illegal and could not stand.

The Presiding Judge, Justice Aluko Akintayo, ruled against the dissolution of the executive committee on the grounds that the party acted harshly without proving the allegations against Nwebonyu. The judge further sacked the Udeogu-led PDP caretaker committee.
