Barnabas Imenger, former Super Eagles player and Lobi Stars team manager, has passed on.

The former Super Eagles player reportedly died in Abuja after suffering a protracted illness.

Imenger was part of the Super Eagles in the mid-90s. He was also part of the national team squad at the 1995 FIFA Confederation Cup, in Saudi Arabia.

He also played for former Hawks FC of Makurdi, which later became BBC FC, Lobi Bank FC and Lobi stars FC.

His demise was confirmed on the official Twitter handle of Lobi Stars.

The tweet reads: “Everyone at #PrideOfBenue mourns the death of a homegrown talent, club legend, a former @NGSuperEagles forward and our Team Manager, Barnabas Imenger. We cannot forget his contributions to #WeAreLobi.”

Imenger has now joined the long list of veteran Nigerian footballers who have passed on, among which are Rashidi Yekini, former Super Eagles striker who died on May 4, 2012; Stephen Keshi, former Super Eagles Defender and coach who died on June 7, 2016; Samuel Okwaraji, former Super Eagles midfielder who died on August 12, 1989; and several footballers.
