President Muhammadu Buhari has charged the newly decorated security chiefs to work with competent officers at their various agencies, irrespective of qualification or seniority, in a bid to end insecurity in the country.
The President said this while decorating the service chiefs in Abuja, on Friday.
The new Service Chiefs decorated are, Major General Lucky Irabor, Chief of Defence Staff, who is decorated as full General; Major General Ibrahim Attahiru; Chief of Army Staff decorated with the rank of Lieutenant-General.
Also, the Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Awwal Zubairu Gambo is decorated as Vice Admiral; and the Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Ishiaka Oladayo Amao is decorated with the rank of Air Marshal.
The president who had met with the National Security Council (NSC) at the State House in Abuja, on Tuesday, said he has backed the security chiefs to work with officers who will bring an end to insecurity nationwide.
The President also charged security agencies to be proactive in tackling the insecurity challenges facing the country. He added that they should go out on the fields, to ensure peace and security.
President Buhari who said he has taken responsibility for the current security concerns in the country, added that normalcy would soon return to the affected areas.
In his words: “I have charged the new Service Chiefs to keep in mind that the nation is looking to them for rapid relief. They must identify competent officers irrespective of seniority and paper qualifications, and work with them to secure this country.
“As Commander in-Chief, I am backing them 100 percent. As I assured at our last security meeting, I have taken responsibility as Commander-in-Chief for them to go out into the fields and every part of the country, to ensure peace and security. I have accepted responsibility for all actions taken in fulfillment of the mandate to secure Nigeria.”
