An absolutely ruthless Manchester United performance saw them beat Southampton 9-0 at Old Trafford, with Saints seeing red cards issued at the start and end of the game.

It’s their joint-biggest win ever in the Premier League as it was the same score by which United beat Ipswich Town in 1995 in their previous biggest win.

Alexandre Jankewitz was sent-off after just over a minute for a knee-high tackle on Scott McTominay and United made Saints pay in a one-way first half which saw the home side score four goals before the break.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Marcus Rashford scored the first two, with the latter crossing for an own goal by Jan Bednarek thereafter. Edinson Cavani got the fourth, with Saints then being rather more resilient after the break until after the hour mark.

Anthony Martial scored twice and won a penalty, with Bednarek being dismissed for the foul and Bruno Fernandes netting the resulting spot-kick, with Scott McTominay also on the scoresheet from range and Dan James wrapping up the win from a few yards out.
