Former Governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido has said the All Progressives Congress (APC) may have a poor outing in the 2023 presidential election because President Muhammadu Buhari will not support the candidacy of a former Lagos Governor, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Tinubu has consistently been in the news for his purported 2023 presidential ambition. Last week, he reportedly lured current and former speakers of State Assembly in Southwest to a meeting in Ibadan as he attempts to build momentum within the Nigerian political class to get a larger buy-in.
“And I swear to God, Buhari will not support Tinubu’s candidacy in coming 2023 general elections,” Lamido said.
Lamido who spoke on Sunday at the inauguration of the Jigawa State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) reconciliation committee on Dutse, Jigawa, said that the APC is a two-man party that operates between Buhari and Tinubu.
He said a clash between the duo ahead of the 2023 presidential election may spell doom for the APC.
While speaking at the Congress, Lamido said, “the PDP is the only party which has the kind of capacity to lead Nigeria and Jigawa State because it is a party that is owned by the people, not a party that is built around one personality. In APC, there are only two persons, it is only Buhari and Tinubu, then after them they have nothing but in PDP wherever you go, you see PDP family, a party which is owned by the people, whoever leads the party will know he has to serve the people. Truth of the matter is very soon there would be no APC in Nigeria because it’s made up of two persons Buhari and Tinubu. And I swear to God, Buhari will not support Tinubu’s candidacy coming 2023 general election. So since they are the leaders of APC and they have issues everyone will find his way and that would be the end of APC in Nigeria.”
Lamido further urged all PDP members to set aside their grievances and personal interest to achieve their common goal, which is to take back power in the 2023 election.
He said, “We also have our own problems, is either we correct or Nigerians would continue to suffer. We must forget all our grievances, set aside all our personal interest for us to win because it is only PDP that can rule this country.”
It would be recalled that there was disharmony in PDP Jigawa’s chapter. The party was divided into two factions. A faction is being led by Lamido and the other led by Aminu Ibrahim Ringim, the 2015 gubernatorial candidate of the party.
The two factions had a disagreement over the leadership of the party’s local government Congress,leading to the reconciliation meeting held on Sunday.
