Nigeria has shattered its own previous record of highest daily Covid-19 infections as the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Friday announced 1867 new infections, the most ever recorded in Africa’s largest country in one day.
8 new deaths were also reported from the contagion, Friday.
Recall that the country had on 6th January, 2020 recorded 1664 as its highest daily figure before Friday’s 1867 new cases.
With the recent grim statistics, it’s evident that the second wave of the pandemic is upon Nigeria.
On Friday, The New Diplomat had reported that Nigeria recorded its all-time high number of fatality from the disease, Thursday, when it racked up 23 new deaths in one single day.
The Friday’s figures bring the country’s total number of cases to 107,345, while its discharged cases are 84,535, its death toll has risen to 1413.
“The 1867 new cases are reported from 24 states; Lagos-713 Plateau-273 FCT-199 Kaduna-117 Oyo-79 Enugu-58 Ondo-53 Kano-49 Sokoto-43 Ogun-37 Osun-37 Nasarawa-36 Rivers-28 Benue-24 Delta-24 Niger-24 Gombe-18 Edo-15 Taraba-12 Bayelsa-10 Ekiti-9 Borno-6 Zamfara-2 Jigawa-1,” the NCDC said.
