The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, Democratic Senator Chuck Schumer and a Republican Representative Adam Kinzinger have all condemned the Wednesday’s invasion of America’s temple of democracy known as the Capitol Hill, thereby want President Trump to be impeached forthwith.
Recall that thousands of Trump supporters on Wednesday, besieged the Capitol to disrupt a joint session of Congress from confirming the winner of the November 3rd, 2020 Presidential election, Joe Biden over Trump’s refuted claim of election fraud.
Nancy Pelosi who reacted to the Capitol seige in a video said, “The President of the United States incited an armed insurrection against America. The gleeful desecration of the US Capitol which is the temple of our democracy and the violence targeting Congress are horrors that will stain our nation’s history”
“I joined the Senate Democratic Leader in calling on the Vice President to remove the President by immediately invoking 25th Amendment. If the Vice President do not act, the congress may be prepared or impeachment” she said
While reacting to the seige, Congressman Adam Kinzinger from Illinois said, “Fires stoked by the president finally leapt out of the pan.”
Adam Kinizinger was the first Republican Congressman to call for the use of the 25th Amendment against the embattled Trump.
“The president did not only abdicated his duty to protect the American people and the people’s house, he invoked and inflamed passions that gave fuel to the insurrection we saw here,” he said.
The Senate Democratic Leader, Mr. Schumer in his reaction reiterated that, “This president should not hold office one day longer,”
He further added that, “The quickest and most effective way — it can be done today — to remove this president from office would be for the Vice President to immediately invoke the 25th amendment.
“If the Vice President and the Cabinet refuse to stand up, Congress should reconvene to impeach the president.”
“Trump is directly responsible for this insurrection and violence. He needs to be removed from office immediately. It is the Constitutional responsibility of Vice President Pence and the cabinet to exercise the power granted them by the 25th amendment.” Rep. Seth Moulton, said.
According to Rep. Omar, we are drawing up articles of impeachment, “We can’t allow him to remain in office, it’s a matter of preserving our Republic and we need to fulfill our oath.”
The 25th Amendment is a potential vehicle for removing the president from the office. It was approved in 1967 in the wake of President John F. Kennedy’s assassination in 1963, which lays out the procedures for replacing the president in the event of death, removal, resignation or incapacitation.
