The Special Public Works Programme of the Federal Government is set to kick off across the country, according to Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Chief Festus Keyamo.

This is coming on the heels of several postponements. The minister said the programme whose goal is to help engage about  774,000 unemployed Nigerians is scheduled to kick-off Tuesday.

Chief Keyamo announced the new  take-off date for the programme via his  Twitter handle.

According to the minister, the decision to roll out the scheme follows an  approval granted by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Keyamo further stated that the institutional structure of the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) at the various state levels have been mobilized to start the scheme.

It would be recalled that the scheme was originally scheduled for launch on October 1, last year. However, the take-off did not take place as earlier planned.

Media reports indicated that this was as a result of  conflicting positions between the minister and the Director-General of NDE, Alhaji Nasir Ladan.

Under the scheme, each worker is expected to earn N20,000 monthly throughout its  three months duration.

Keyamo’s tweet announcing the scheme reads:
